Hey guys, you might notice that I finally added some blog links. These are the blogs that I read regularly. Some of them are friends, and others are just people that I started reading through other blogs. Check them out…
So - I got a project today - create some graphics for the Toyota Sienna Minivans that my company is buying. The Community Relations Reps will be driving them around full of pamphlets and brochures. Now I can’t say that I’ve ever designed graphics to cover an entire vehicle before, but I think I’m up for the challenge. I also think I’m going to like this job.
I have actually been able to get myself out of bed at 6am the past two mornings, ok so maybe it was more like 6:05am, but still. Up in enough time to be ready, actually put my make-up on in the bathroom and not in my car, and get to work by 7:30am. I’m pretty impressed with myself, since I’m not really a morning person. But I think getting off work early is kind of nice, and I can somewhat set my own hours, so I’m giving it a try, and so far so good! We’ll see if it lasts.
My first week at my new job, has gone well. I think this is the first time I haven’t cried on the job in a first week, so that’s good. It was a lot of learning the environment. I’m working for a non-profit healthcare organization, so I had to get poked and prodded my first day, even though I’m just a graphic designer, and won’t be around any patients. I got a flu shot, a tb test, and blood drawn - ooo fun. I’ve also learned a lot about medicaid, and healthcare organizations.
Although this is a total change of pace for me from the church world, I’m really looking forward to it. I actually got to work on a project on Friday finally - it was just a small ad, but it was nice to finally get my feet wet with my real job responsibilities. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to do more than just get my feet wet this next week.
Just thought I’d give you guys an update on how things are going.
:) Krissie
88 - the temperature outside when we loaded the trailer50 and raining when we unloadedI heard this great song on the trip. I’ve had it on my ipod for a while, but hadn’t ever listened to it. It’s by Sara Groves, “Painting Pictures of Egypt” - I totally identify with it, although not so much right at the moment, but so many times in my life I second guess my decisions. Here are the lyrics:
I don’t want to leave hereI don’t want to stayIt feels like pinching to me either wayThe places I long for the mostAre the places where I’ve beenThey are calling after me like a long lost friend It’s not about losing faithIt’s not about trustIt’s all about comfortableWhen you move so muchThe place I was wasn’t perfectBut I had found a way to liveIt wasn’t milk or honeyBut then neither is this CHORUS:I’ve been painting pictures of EgyptLeaving out what it lackedThe future seems so hardAnd I want to go backBut the places that used to fit meCannot hold the things I”ve learnedAnd those roads closed off to meWhile my back was turned The past is so tangibleI know it by heartFamiliar things are never easy to discardI was dying for some freedomBut now I hesitate to goCaught between the promiseAnd the things I know BRIDGE:If it comes too quickI may not recognize itIs that the reason behind all this time and sand?If it comes too quickI may not appreciate itIs that the reason behind all this time and sand?
My favorite lines are:
I’ve been painting pictures of EgyptLeaving out what it lackedThe future seems so hardAnd I want to go backBut the places that used to fit meCannot hold the things I’ve learned I’ve learned so much recently, and I totally understand how old “places” can’t hold what I’ve learned. It’s all too easy to paint pictures - like right now, the weather in Cali is looking pretty good, but then I remember my crazy landlady, difficulty making ends meet, and a job that didn’t really fit me. Do you find yourself painting pictures of Egypt?
